Teacher Support & Resources

BTSA (Beginning Teacher Support and Assessment):

The Sulphur Springs School District has had over thirty teachers new to the district for the past several years.  There is a strong support network available to support the teachers new to Sulphur Springs, whether they have little experience or come to us with several years of teaching experience.  Teachers in their first two years of teaching may choose to participate in BTSA (Beginning Teacher Support & Assessment) each beginning teacher is matched with a Support Provider who works closely with them throughout the two-year program.  The BTSA Program uses the California Standards for the Teaching Profession as the backbone of the staff development and support offered new teachers. The Support Provider comes into the Beginning Teacher's classroom and observes lessons and provides non-evaluative assessment designed to help strengthen and improve each teacher's instruction and classroom management practices.

On-Site Mentors:

All teachers new to the district are assigned an On-Site Mentor.  This mentor is an experienced teacher who teaches at their school and usually in the same grade level.  The mentor's role is to help the teacher learn the procedures and practices at the school and within the district.  The On-Site Mentor plays a critical role in helping all teachers new to the district learn the ropes.
