Categorical Programs

 

Instructional Services coordinates many state and federal categorical programs to meet students’ diverse learning needs.  The Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) Program, the English Learner (EL) Program, and the Title I Program are some of the programs available in district schools.  Instructional Services also coordinates various categorical programs that provide high quality professional development opportunities throughout the year to support staff in meeting the academic, social, and emotional needs of all students.

 

GIFTED AND TALENTED EDUCATION (GATE) PROGRAM

Ø      Program Purpose

Ø      The GATE Program provides differentiated learning experiences within the regular school day for students who have been identified as gifted and talented.  Teachers use various strategies to add depth, complexity, novelty, and when appropriate, acceleration to standards-based lessons.

ENGLISH LEARNER PROGRAM/PROGRAMA PARA APRENDICES DEL IDIOMA INGLES

Ø      Program Purpose

Ø      Provides programs and services for identified English learner students to assist them in achieving grade-level academic standards and acquiring fluency in English

Ø      The CBET Program provides English classes at no cost to adults who pledge to provide assistance to English learner students.

TITLE I PROGRAM

Ø      Program Purpose

Ø      A federal program to ensure that all children have a fair, equal, and significant opportunity to obtain a high-quality education and reach, at a minimum, proficiency on challenging state academic achievement standards and state academic assessments.  The Title I Program is currently available at Canyon Springs Community School, Mint Canyon Community School, Leona Cox and Valley View Community School.
